In the current Filters pane, when applying multiple filter conditions, they are combined using the AND logic. This means that only items meeting all the specified criteria are shown. However, there are cases where users may want to find items that meet any one of the specified criteria instead.
The suggestion is to add an option in the Filters pane to allow users to choose whether multiple filter conditions should be combined using AND or OR logic.
Benefits:
- Increased flexibility: Providing both AND and OR options would give users more control over how they want to filter and find data, making the filtering experience more versatile.
- Enhanced data exploration: With the ability to use OR conditions, users can more easily explore and find items that meet at least one of their specified criteria, which can be useful for data analysis, research, or simply locating relevant information more efficiently.
- Improved user experience: Adding this functionality would make the Filters pane more powerful and user-friendly, aligning with Microsoft's goal of providing intuitive and productive tools for its users.
Implementation:
The implementation could involve adding a simple toggle or dropdown option in the Filters pane UI, allowing users to switch between "AND" and "OR" logic when applying multiple filter conditions. This could be positioned near the existing filter controls for easy access and visibility.
Additional Notes:
- Grouping OR conditions: Users should be able to group multiple OR conditions together, which can then be combined with other conditions using AND logic. This would allow for complex filtering scenarios where items need to meet at least one condition from a group, while also satisfying other specified criteria.
- Cross-attribute/table filtering: The OR conditions should not be limited to a single attribute or table. Users should be able to apply OR logic across different attributes or tables, enabling them to find items that meet any one of the specified criteria, regardless of their source or location within the data.

RE: Filters Pane - Add option for OR/AND conditions
This is something that we have been able to do in other systems (Cognos). We are moving from Cognos to Power BI and would like to have similar functionality. Not having this feature is causing us issues and resulting in timely work arounds that makes hitting timelines challenging.
