I'd like to be able to select a record in a table and have a chart on the dashboard filtered by that record. For example in PerformancePoint you can create a KPI list and then have a filter action to filter a line chart by the selected KPI. Ideally it would be good to have something similar to Tableau chart actions where you can customize which charts are affected by the filter, method of activating the action (click, hover etc). I understand this might be complex so I'd settle for a special type of table which restricts you to one dimension and many measures, and clicking on a dimension value would filter all charts on the dashboard.

We have this feature in the new table and matrix visual. Learn more in the blog: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/#table

RE: Table filter
I don't understand why this is still not available after all this time! this is a must have!
RE: Table filter
Please add this feature, its available on all other competition tools
RE: Table filter
Must have, look at Qlik!
RE: Table filter
Must have. Would be very useful, for example we may have a big table of stock items - if Power BI had a 'search filter' option rather than just the Q&A we could shrink the table of items to show just the products that had matching characteristics.

Here's an basic PoC I did about 3 years ago using Tableau Public. It's all sample data, but it shows SSRS style parameters and how the table filters the line chart. I'm no Tableau expert and this was done in an hour or so. If I'd used a slicer it would have a different sort order to the table and could lead to confusion. This sort of executive dashboard should be simple to do in Power BI but it just isn't that easy and you need to clog the dashboard with slicers!

Note select the oneHD KPIs tab.
RE: Table filter
'@MattAllington A lot has changed in Power BI in 15 months, and now a slicer may be a less than ideal work around seeing we can manage interactions. But in my scenario you would be unnecessarily adding a slicer to a report when using a table as the slicer / filter would work fine. Remember that the slicer is just a single column of unique values. Why would you want to add extra ink & complexity on the report? Users would have to move away from their point of focus and interact with a different object on the report. So I'd be happy if we introduce a new slicer which has many columns (or a table slicer/filter :-) )
RE: Table filter
What is different between this and a slicer?
RE: Table filter
Must have feature
RE: Table filter
Yeah! Microsoft, Do it!
RE: Table filter
Yes to this, 1000X. This would be so helpful!
