I'd like to be able to select a record in a table and have a chart on the dashboard filtered by that record. For example in PerformancePoint you can create a KPI list and then have a filter action to filter a line chart by the selected KPI. Ideally it would be good to have something similar to Tableau chart actions where you can customize which charts are affected by the filter, method of activating the action (click, hover etc). I understand this might be complex so I'd settle for a special type of table which restricts you to one dimension and many measures, and clicking on a dimension value would filter all charts on the dashboard.

We have this feature in the new table and matrix visual. Learn more in the blog: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/#table

RE: Table filter

I'd like to be able to filter a table directly, like in Excel, where I can filter each column. Then having filtered the table, select one or more of the remaining rows, and have them slice data that appears in other tables/charts. Call it a "multi-column slicer". Instead of having a separate slicer for each dimension, the multi-column table allows me to search for the combination of dimension values of interest, and then filter the remainder of the report to those dimension values. The latter slicer functionality goes beyond Excels; but we begin with being able to filter individual columns, in the table itself.

RE: Table filter

Is there a way to turn this off?

Any time I click on the table to edit it or just because I'm trying to click off of something else, it turns on a filter.
This needs to be a setting to have row filtering

RE: Table filter

Can this idea be marked as STARTED with the new Matrix visual?

RE: Table filter

On April 3, 2017 a new matrix visual was introduced to Power BI, which I think is what you're looking for.

RE: Table filter

Hi forum, I am relatively new to PBI and come from a strong Qlikview background. This is definitely a requirement for intuitive filtering and total BI experience. Please try attend to this as a matter of urgency

RE: Table filter

Well this has been kicking around for some time. I have a customer that will probably not go this way without the support for this.

RE: Table filter

I'm wondering, if anyone from the Power BI team even looked at this one?
On top of that, I'd like also to be able to select and copy the line/field to clipboard from a table.
