We see that there is a way at the tenant level to restrict the export to excel as well as the analyze in excel but we need an option per dataset (preferred) or per Power BI Report to restrict this option. The problems we are facing is for both sensitive information and also for volumes of data that is too large for this option. We need to have the ability to stop this option for these specific datasets but allow it for other non-sensitive information - so the tenant level option is not appropriate.

You can do this by changing the "Export data" setting in the Options in Power BI Desktop: File --> Options and Settings --> Options --> Current File Report Settings --> Export Data.

RE: restrict export to excel

Separate settings for the application, report and dataset a great option and very flexible. Many of our data sets are too large to be exported but individual visuals in reports are not.

RE: restrict export to excel

Export to Excel is indeed a need especially considering our company habits but should in my opinion be disable for large volumes of data. We would then prevent servers to crash and users would not be tempted to export huge lists of data to then analyze it through pivots, just because they feel more comfortable with Excel.

RE: restrict export to excel

Power BI is an amazing platform but Excel is the most widely used data analysis tool so far. Lots of users need to see data in Excel, so the option to export data to Excel is very handy. If the strong security control capabilities of Power BI can be applied to this data export feature, it would be great. Please also offer more options for choosing the datasets of choices. I strongly support this idea.

Completely Agree this would save a lot of time and enable us to put more SSRS requests through Power BI
