Currently, all the different types of groups - Security Groups (mail enabled and non-mail enabled), Distribution Lists, O365 groups - can be used in different places to provide permissions.
For example, you can use O365 groups in workspace and app permissions, but can't use them in the share button, for dataset permissions and RLS role membership. Similarly, you can use AD security groups for everything EXCEPT data source users on gateway connections.
This creates a lot of confusion for admins and workspace owners and requires us to use multiple groups for different things. Ideally, we'd be able to use all group types for all permissions.

RE: Use all kinds of groups for all types of permissions
This also effects embedded PBI with AS-LIVE connections. One type of group for embedded and one type of group for AS??
