I usually face a lot of problem in creating a mobile (vertical) view from existing pages. Generally the fonts dont work properly and the visuals is not fully visible. As a workaround what I do is copy the relevant visuals to a separate page, then resize them as appropriate and then create a mobile view of that page.
Unfortunately the mobile view is a visible page. If i hide this page, the page gets hidden on the mobile also.
What I propose is to have a separate page type called "Mobile". This page should never be shown in the landscape mode.So from the general browser based usage this page will get hidden. And in the mobile view only those pages tagged as "Mobile" should be visible.

You can use the mobile formatting options to have two different layout for the same page one for web and one for mobile
