In Excel 2010, they were called "Measures".
In Excel 2013, they changed the name to "Calculated Fields".
In Power BI Designer, they are called "Measures" again.
I hope that they change it back to "Measures" in Excel 2016 because it sounds a lot "smarter" than "Calculated Fields".
Side note: They are also called "Measures" and Qlik

Is there a timeline for when DAX might be available on the Web App? Works great on the desktop version!
RE: DAX Editor in Power BI Designer
In Power BI Designer Preview version 2.22, when right-clicking on an existing table, the "New Column" option for creating a DAX calculated column doesn't seem to exist (but "New Measure does). Does anyone know if this is as intended?
Possibly it's just available in the paid version?
Confused as there is a tutorial on creating DAX Calculated Columns here:

RE: DAX Editor in Power BI Designer
I really like how the look/feel is just like the formula editor in Excel. Nicely done.
And the new CONCATENATEX function is awesome.
RE: DAX Editor in Power BI Designer
DAX-support very important for this tool to be useful
RE: DAX Editor in Power BI Designer
DAX functionality is on its way.
RE: DAX Editor in Power BI Designer
Really anxious to know when DAX will be available in Power BI Designer. Why can't the largest software company in the world give us a roadmap for Power BI, as per this article?

RE: DAX Editor in Power BI Designer
Having calculated columns and calculations in DAX is an obvious necessity. So a +1 here.

Being able to see the embedded data model would also be beneficial for defining data types, renaming columns, and defining default aggregations. Please add!
