We are creating multiple reports for a single dataset so any changes to measures are done in a single location and we are forced to do subsequent reports via the Service. Would be great if we could edit multiple reports in a single desktop file.

I appreciate that you can edit a report and do a 'save as' but then any changes to the master may need to be carried through to the child reports. Being able to reference a data set in the Power BI Service would be perfect.

RE: Create multiple reports in a single Power BI Desktop file

Actually, I believe I did find a work around. Basically, I just clicked "Edit Report" on the Power BI service. Then modified it as I want, and click "Save As" to create a copy of that report.

So, Say I have a PBIX file called "Data Model 1". It has 3 tabs in the report (Tab 1, Tab 2, Tab 3). I publish the PBIX up to the service.

On the service, I now have 1 data model and one report titled "Data Model 1" that has the three tabs within it. I now open that report and click "Edit Report" and then "Save As" and call it "Report 1". I then delete from that report tabs 2 & 3. I now have 2 reports on the service, "Data Model 1" and "Report 1". I can repeat for tabs 2 & 3 if I like and finally delete the original report. Now all I have is "Report 1, 2, & 3"

The trick will be when I change the data model in the PBIX file and republish I have to do all this again, but at least it appears to be a work around. Hope this was helpful to someone.

We probably don't need this idea anymore as Power BI Desktop can connect to models on the powerbi.com service,

RE: Create multiple reports in a single Power BI Desktop file

I definitely agree with this. In addition to this, being able to download the collection of reports along with the single dataset as a pbix file for pbi desktop. I currently use tabs in a single pbix file to deal with this. I am just watching the elegance of my report fade away as I continue to iterate.

I am starting to wonder others have a great workaround to this due to the low vote count for this idea. Please let me know what the solution is.

Like most other popular office programs, you should be able to go to "Open Recent" in the PowerBi desktop file and choose what report for that dataset you want to be working on.
