Completely unnecessary, plus I doubt anybody would miss it. When setting a background image and then choosing a background "pattern" (or colour) it gives the image a weird (and ugly) white gradient border. I would love to see it gone.

RE: Remove white shadow/border from background image
It is very surprising this has not been fixed.I shouldn't have to work around being unable to turn off a drop shadow.
RE: Remove white shadow/border from background image
It's surprising this hasn't been fixed. I don't see the point of the white glow and very annoying it can't be turned off. Should be an easy QoL improvement, Microsoft!
RE: Remove white shadow/border from background image
My design included a dark strip at the bottom of the page. Turning this on automatically led to a white strip between the bottom of the report and where the shadow appears to start. I was wondering what I'd done wrong. If the shadow was turned on optionally, it would be clearer that I also have to set the colour, too to make it look right with my design.I don't need the shadow, though. Making it optional would mean one less click needed.
RE: Remove white shadow/border from background image
Thank you!! I totally agree.I wish it's optional
