The WebView2 update seems now to default to "on", and while it can be disabled, requiring it in the future will create headaches for users by:

  • Keeping us from multi-tab browsing when opening links from Power BI
  • Keeping us from distinguishing on our taskbar which open windows are webpages and which ones are PBI files.
  • Keeping us from navigating to other webpages from the pages we just opened

Instead, any of these options would be preferable for users who use links in PBI Desktop:

  • Let us keep using our default browsers.
  • Require that Edge is installed and force us to use Edge with Desktop
  • Develop this pseudo-browser into a full-on browser with features we'd expect of modern browsers (e.g. tabs), and which appears distinctly in the taskbar separate from our PBI Desktop files.
