Depending on the response time of the data source, a data refresh may result in an unwanted "canceled" refresh due to a query timeout limit within PowerBI.
If a query does not return a part of or the whole result set within a specific time, the query is canceled by PowerBI.

I suggest the PowerBI team to increase the default timeout value or even better to make this setting available as property within the "data source credential" settings.

RE: configurable query timeout property on data source

In addition to cancelling if it doesn't receive the data in the desired time limit, the refresh fails if the datasource doesn't connect in less than 15 seconds. I believe the default for ODBC is 30 seconds, and they even have retry capabilities built into the ODBC driver. Don't bother trying to use them, PowerBI Ignores those properties. :(
