The "Power BI Desktop" tool for Power BI Report Server looks pretty much the same as the standard "Power BI Desktop" tool.
Please rename it to something like "Power BI Desktop for Power BI Report Server".
Also, why not have an icon to represent it? Such as including a server symbol behind the Power BI icon?
I understand the need to have different tools due to the different release cycles therefore would be important to make the On-Premises version is more specific.

With the latest release of Power Bi Report Server, we’ve changed the icon colors for the Desktop version that ships with it to differentiate this from the version in the cloud service! Thanks for this great idea and we hope you like the latest release! Chris

RE: Distinguish "Power BI Desktop" for Power BI Report Server
Changing the icon color was a good start but does not solve this problem. If I double click on a .PBIX file, I have no idea which version of Power BI Desktop is opening. Please update the splash screen and provide the ability to change the default application associated with .PBIX files.

Yes, please make this change! I just created a report in regular Power BI Desktop, and can't load it on the server because I wasn't in the Server Version!! Add "Server Version" to the name!

This would be ideal. separate the build branches. one for power bi desktop ON PREM and one for CLOUD
