Paginated Reports (.rdl) cannot currently leverage SharePoint Online data sources; this functionality would allow organisations to replicate the kind of reporting available in SSRS when connected to SharePoint on premise.

In my organisation we have a number of SharePoint based applications which would greatly benefit from classic, paginated reporting to provide billing information to suppliers and internal summaries.
A handful of these lists are well over the 5k limit so we're currently producing reports through a mixture of JavaScript, REST and third-party ExcelJS plug-ins; this functionality in PBI would make life so much easier.

I have seen several similar threads on this but none that directly ask the question around making SP Online a connector option for paginated reports.

RE: Connect to SharePoint Online via Report Builder

For those that happen upon this, to be clear, in Power BI Report Builder (which is used for paginated reports within PBI), there is not an option for SharePoint Online or on-premise as a data source. Alternatively, you can create a PBI dataset connected to SPO or SP on-premise, then consume that dataset within PBI Report Builder. This workaround is not sufficient for organizations that maintain thousands of sites for customer collaboration. Please consider adding SharePoint as a data source to PBI Report Builder.
