Right now you cannot have a legend or color saturation at the same time on a chart. It would be good to allow, and the way it would work it would determine the saturation based on each value in the legend. For example, if you have a bar chart of sales per store with a region legend, you might want to add a saturation of staff members within that region. So the blue west region might get varying shades of blue based on how many staff are in the store. The east region might have only 3 stores, so their green shading is bases only on those 3.

RE: Legend and saturation together
Additionally, saturation can be used to e.g. lighten up values "out of (logical) scope".
For example, you have a bar chart, comparing YTD values of sales of current year and previous year (that is, two series) and the axis is the month (or other period); now suppose we're interested in conveying the fact that "current period" is 4 (four), thereby sort of "graying out" all periods after the "current" one.
Sample data:
Year;Period;Net Sales;Current period
2016;1;100;1
2016;2;150;1
2016;3;200;1
2016;4;220;1
2016;5;220;0
a.s.o.
2017;1;90;1
2017;2;120;1
2017;3;180;1
2017;4;240;1
2017;5;320;0
