Currently, it's difficult to track where problems are happening in a workspace. Having a single tab in the workspace that lists problems and potential issues would make it easier to keep reports running smoothly. With the information in one place, it will be harder to miss an error. Listings may include:

  • Broken visuals
  • Broken measures and calculated columns
  • Missing or expired data source credentials blocking refresh
  • This could, for example be a "Data Refresh" table that showed each data source, if it has a scheduled refresh, and if all sources are in order
  • Measures and calc columns not used in any reports
  • Deprecated items
  • This isn't a thing yet, but there is an idea to add such functionality: https://ideas.fabric.microsoft.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=391233ee-53fc-eb11-ba5e-281878bdaa58 (input filter won't allow it to be a link...)
  • User access issues
  • Depending on configuration, it is possible to add a user to a report but the visuals will not load. This would show any incorrectly configured users.

I do my best to keep everything running smoothly, but users don't always report when they have an issue. For example, a model update may break a visual. Nobody mentions it, so it stays unfixed until I notice it at a later date. With a single tab to check, this can be part of the process of any model change, and the problem can be fixed right away.

The unused items list and adding deprecation will also assist in model development. It will ensure that fields thought to be unused actually are. This will mean model changes do not cause issues in the first place.

RE: Tab in workspace listing possible issues

Pain point of the day: I got a reminder for an access request I'd forgotten. I'd added them to the workspace as a whole, so it wasn't causing a user issue, but still needed cleaning up.So, we could expand user access issues from my original:Depending on configuration, it is possible to add a user to a report but the visuals will not load. This would show any incorrectly configured users.Pending access requests. Users who have not used the workspace for a long time (6 months?) and may need removing.

RE: Tab in workspace listing possible issues

Pain point of the day:Report pages marked as tooltip page. Are they in use? I suspect some can be removed, but I can't easily see it.Inversely, are there broken visuals (they had a tooltip page set but it's not available?)
