Dear team,

I'm happy seeing parameter functionality in Power BI, however I think there is quite usefull idea to extend it a bit more and allow parameters to be autoexecuted (where needed) to get some user input for specific item.

How it should look like?

Here are few examples:

  • Filters in report - here a parameter would work like predefined filters to be set: and several examples here like - please provide: cost center, date, department, product, etc.. which end user is only interesed about. ("*" asterix is equal as a full scope). Later on it can be of course changed directly in the report. Such functinality is visible from gaes in SAP reporting
  • Let's imagine that there is a variable (parameter) "path" or catalog - which points to the data source. Default value is defined (in parameters), but if it will change a user can be asked to enter this manually
  • some other connected to the parameters, but available for user input

Benefits:

  • for not advanced users it can be quite usefull to get the acurate data on the report they are inetersted in
  • it may significantly improve a query behind report and narrow down fetching of the data volume

In the parameter section there might be an option (like flag) - defining if the specific parameter should be triggered or not (auto executed for prompt) before start of the report.

Here is some link which can give you an idea how it work SAP BO for ages: Create a prompt to select a subset of data: SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence 4.0 - YouTube

Hope to find available soon in PBI release.
