Currently you cannot combine Service queries (like SalesForce) with database queries in a singe data set and have it use the on-prem Gateway. Nasty problem... I have to go through multiple steps to get the data out of SF and into my database in order to use it. Same goes for Excel data sources. We should be able to combine data sources from just about anywhere s long as they have a logical join. Or, if this were really an industry competitive product, we would have shared data sets (semantic layers) and the ability to connect a report to more than one of them and join them in the report. I shouldn't have to build multiple SSIS jobs to prepare data that is available directly.
This, in addition to poor join capabilities, is where PBI seriously falls behind SAP and others.
