Add the ability to edit interactions from the 'Selection' pane (or a separate pane).

We are using a combination of buttons and bookmarks to show/hide visualizations so it is difficult to edit interactions on all of the overlapping hidden vizualisations. Having this functionality in a pane would make editing interactions much easier.

It would also help if you could control the interaction with the object itself especially when it is a matrix that you don't want to filter down to just one row, when you actually want to just select that row and filter the other objects based on the selected interactions.

RE: Edit interactions from selection pane

I have various BI Dashboards that have quite a few visuals that are more or less stacked right on top of each other, and it makes using the Edit Interaction Icons nearly impossible. I constantly have to resize visuals and move them around to get what I need done, then reorganize everything again after. The icon placement also doesn't always make it clear which visual you are selecting. I think these icons should appear inside the visual in one of the corners, or even right in the middle until you turn off the Edit Interactions option that makes them visible. At least give an option to make the icons appear either inside or outside of the visual.

Sometimes there are a lot of visuals and it is kind hard to edit interactions between the visuals.

It would be nice if we could manage it by a dialog box like we are able to do when setting the relationships up.

This feature would be great and very helpful.

Edit Interactions

I feel that the Edit Interactions should work in two ways :

a whether a selected visual should affect other visuals
b whether a visual should be affected by other visuals.

For example suppose I have created a slicer of a fact based dimension. When i interact with other visual on my DB, the slicer will change its value since it is based on fact. So in case I need the values to stay static, I would need to set the edit interaction to false for this visual wrt all other visuals.

Instead a slicer (or any other visual) should have a property whether it should be affected by other visuals or not.

RE: Edit interactions from selection pane

The ability to set the visual interaction on each visual individually is a great feature.

If a report contains several visuals, slicers, text fields or even images, that becomes quickly pretty messy.
All items are highlighted during the "Edit interaction", which becomes increasingly difficult to edit them, because some icons are hidden behind another visual. The only solution yet is to move the visual or item out of the way to maintain the interaction icon "behind" it and then move it back in place.

Three suggestions:

1. Only show interaction icons for items, which have a functional interaction. That means, text boxes, frames, pictures ect. which do not have a functional interaction, do not need to show an icon to set interacion. That could reduce cluttering during edit interaction.

2. if an interaction icon is still covered behind another item, the icon should be moved to another place e.g. under the visual, where its still visible

An even better solution would be a separate pane to manage interactions under View -> Show panes, similar to bookmarks and Selection.

RE: Edit interactions from selection pane

It is great that we can edit the interactions between visuals in PBI - but we need to be able to manage this differently.
It is sometimes necessary to set up complex interactions - and debugging can be difficult when this is done.

Example - I have a report with six matrix tables, and six filters - I need some of the filters to interact with only two tables, and leave the others alone. Other filters need to interact with four of the tables, but not to interact with each other.
This can get complicated to review when a filter was not set up properly.

In order to see what is affecting a table, I have to click on each of the visuals and/or filters separately to see how they interact when the table I am reviewing.

I have seen other requests for a pane to handle visuals, and I think that might be the best solution.

My suggestion - a pane similar to the visualizations pane (it changes to show only the visual you have clicked on). In that pane, have two sections - one for "interacts with" where we can see all the items that visual affect - the second section would be "is affected by" where we can see how all of the items interact with that visual.

RE: Edit interactions from selection pane

If you have a page with multiple visuals (some of which are quite small) and you want to add a slicer to only interact with one, it is a seriously long procedure to edit all interactions, especially when you have to move/expand the other visuals to be able to press the stop interaction button.

RE: Edit interactions from selection pane

When the edit interaction button is selected on Desktop Application , I can can choose how each visual interacts with each other . ie. highlight or filter or do nothing . I would like to have another option here to show the opposite or inverse .

For EG - I have 6 slicers for customer ,country, business type, business sub type ,revenue and products (list of products)

Two Identical tables that have the same columns as the slicers .

Now I want to able to filter through each of my slicers , both tables will filter exactly in the same way untill I reach purchases , which should have have the opposite interaction .

One table will show all customers under the selected criteria that have made the product purchase and the other table would show all customers under the selected criteria that havnt .

RE: Edit interactions from selection pane

Also consider allowing the interactions to all visuals contained within a group
