I have found no support for using existing data model hierarchies in either Power BI or Power BI Desktop. It is not either possible to create own hierarchies in Power BI Desktop. This feature would greatly approve the the ability to build reports based on eg. dates, geography and organizational structures.

We've added this to the product. In the next release you'll also be able to drag and drop to create hierarchies as well.

RE: Support for Hierarchies
This is a must for my company. I'm pitching Power BI as an alternative to Tableau, so my end users are very used to this feature!
RE: Support for Hierarchies
MUST... PowerView has this, SSAS Browser has this, SSAS Browser > Explore in Excel has this, crazy that PowerBI Desktop and PowerBI don't have this.
RE: Support for Hierarchies
Hierarchy is a MUST, basically end users love to drill up and down the DIM's, it's the main facility tool for end users
RE: Support for Hierarchies
I think it would be awesome if Power BI could be connected with Active Directory to allow for views dependent on role and department.
RE: Support for Hierarchies
Hi Andres, I don't think this is what people are asking for. If I have hierarchies defined in my Cube, I'd like to be able to see them in the Fields list and use the hierarchy as a whole in the reports.
RE: Support for Hierarchies
This is now possible with the update a couple months ago. Add more fields to the chart and it enables drill down with your defined hierarchy. I think the UI is still a little funky but the functionality is there.
RE: Support for Hierarchies
Unbelievable that something as fundamental to reporting and analysis as hierarchies aren't supported out of the box
RE: Support for Hierarchies
Can't believe this is so low down in the pecking order. Support for existing hierarchies are such a key component.
RE: Support for Hierarchies
Hopefully this will soon be implemented in the upcoming updates of Power BI. The real-time connection to SSAS tabular and the ability to import Power Pivot data models loose much of their value if they cant be used as intended. Especially problematic when using explicit hierarchies.
RE: Support for Hierarchies
Does anyone know if this feature is on the roadmap as we may discount the entire product if this functionality is not available.
