Several functionalities that are extremely useful for business users are grouped in with report developer permissions, and are going underutilized by our organization. For instance, creating and managing dashboards shouldn't also require giving the user permission to edit and delete reports, or access to the underlying dataset. It is exactly the same functionality as creating live embedded PowerPoint presentations except it can be hosted in the Power BI service instead of a separate file. This is a wonderful tool for business users, but I'm not able to give them the permission. Similarly, being able to add other users to email subscriptions is somehow not available to anyone besides developers. As the main report developer at our org, I'm finding my time being spent doing non-developer things and good functionalities of Power BI not being utilized because I can't parse out these non-developer features from the developer roles in the workspace.
I'd like to be able to either create custom roles in the workspace with more granular control over permissions, or be provided with more than one level of business user role in the workspace.
