Incremental import with direct query for old results

Power BI currently offers incremental import where the latest results use direct query and import for old records.

This approach is fine for real-time use cases but is the opposite of what is most useful for most scenarios.

Most of the time our users will look at recent data. Occasionally somebody needs to look at data over a long period.

Having the option to import the latest data to cache and using direct query when people need to access old data would be ideal in this scenario.
