It's really frustrating that when you have a .pbix file stored on OneDrive (even one created by an App Workspace) the file type is not recognised.
In order to open the PBIX file in the desktop application you have to follow a convoluted route (in IE only, doesn't work in Edge or Chrome) to view in file explorer first.
Other file types are recognised by OneDrive (e.g. .xlsx) so .pbix files should be recognised as well!
