Especially needed with the new PBI embedded visual one needs to optimize the report performance for timely functionality. The current paginated reports always loads all of the queries in the report & sub-reports just to display a preview of the report within the PBI report. This can take 15 seconds to many minutes, based on the amount of data in the report. Once displayed the user can then choose to Export the report in another format.
This idea requests the ability to selectively modify the queries (e.g.: limit preview to 100 rows) within development of the paginated report based on the render format when viewing the report. This could be achieved by allowing the Globals!RenderFormat.Name built-in field value to be used to selectively modify the queries.
Thus a developer could better leverage paginated reports with the Power BI paginated report visual to provide users with an easy and well performing solution to generating an exported data format.
Thanks for your consideration!
