Office data connection (odc) files allow end users to quickly and easily launch , create a pivot table connected directly to a specified data source. I propose a Power BI data connection (PDC) file that had similar behavior. This would allow easy publishing access to data sources in enterprises so end users that wish to author custom reports against data sources don't need to jump through multiple steps to access data source. The PDC file would launch desktop tool and connect directly to configured data source in one step.

RE: ODC equivalent for Power BI Desktop
In order to facilitate reuse of queries and custom functions, we can now utilize ODC technology in Excel. PowerBI, on the other hand, uses a mechanism to incorporate extended connectors individually, so that we can start custom functions with the same interface as standard functions. I'm worried that Excel and PowerBI are beginning to take different measures, and I would like the development team to consider synchronizing both systems. In PowerBI, it is desirable to make use of ODC and also to refer to and use extended functions in Excel.

This would enable us to work with own/custom-function library efficiently:

So please add in PBI as well!

'@kyle no. The connector in desktop still required the user to go through multiple steps. ODC file instantly launches application and connects you to specific data source in one action. This is vital for success in enterprise sharing scenarios.
RE: ODC equivalent for Power BI Desktop
I want to use odc file in Power BI Desktop, and Power BI Services.
for using my query on Excel, Power BI Desktop, Power BI Services.
and I hope to use it on Azure Analysis Services, SQL Server Analysis Services.

Jorge, would you say the new Power BI connector within PowerBI Desktop meets this need?
