This page instructs how to Upload an Excel file to the Power BI workspace so that this file can be shown in Excel online (not edited though): https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-excel-workbook-files#local-excel-workbooks.

The path visible for us is nowadays just:

https://app.powerbi.com/groups/[WorkspaceGUID]/workbooks/[SomeNumber]/new

This idea is about being able to refer to this Uploaded file from Power BI Desktop / Power Query Online, using Power Query so the data can be embedded in the report.

This would be great for prototyping until we have direct access to data source.

This would also be great whenever we have some static data we would like to be able to change without re-building the report (Power Query Static Table).

Yes, we can achieve the same placing the file in OneDrive or SharePoint, but then we need to plan for accesses and the work items will not be kept together as well as it would if we could store the files within the workspace.

Yes, we can also use the Import feature, but this will instead create a dataset
