Okay. Currently I have a line chart. The x axis represents the number of weeks in the year. I also have a line visual "behind' that chart to reflect different parts of the year that are important. Depending on the user's selections the x values can (and do change).
It would be cool if there were a way to "lock' that line visual to a specific value on the x axis so that when the values on the axis shift the line shifts as well.

Rory, Unfortunately for our purposes we have to use a trend line, a bar chart is simply not an option. But thanks for posting the similar ideas.

One way to work around this currently is to use a line and column chart. For horizontal lines, create a line that just has constant values. For vertical lines, create a column series that just has suitably tall columns where you want the vertical lines. But yes, reference lines would be nice.
