It would be helpful to get more detailed, cause related error messages and last but not least, PowerBI scheduled refresh should automatically retry a refresh (i.e. 3 times after 5 min wait) in case of failure due to limited source data availability. It would be best, if the retry behaviour could be configured as part of the dataset refresh schedule settings.

RE: Automatic, configurable retry on scheduled dataset refresh

We need this retry only when the datasource status is online , this will help to retry only if the underlying datasource or database is back online after any outages

Agreed. Since a lot of our one a day dataflows run overnight if the PBI services gives an error like service unavailable, we've lost that data for the entire day. We have to check when we're all available for this and then refresh it which causes the business owners some heartache.

This is much needed, currently we have challenge to update failed DSs manually and delays are expected in reporting this way.

As we now have Azure SQL Database available on Serverless (auto-pause) tier - this feature should be given greater priority as we're currently having to use an ADF pipeline to wake the database up so our overnight PowerBI refreshes don't simply give up after their first attempt.

This would be extremely helpful- especially when supporting users who only view reports and don't create them. It would cut down on my troubleshooting time.

RE: Automatic, configurable retry on scheduled dataset refresh

Yes, there are too many factors with connectivity between Azure through the Gateway and then to the On-Premise Data Source to expect things to work 100% of the time. An ability to put "Number of retries" option in the Scheduled Refresh screen would go a long way to compensate for all the moving parts that can fail refreshes.

We have intermittent failures that can be attributed to network issues, issues we can't see, and db availability issues (table being locked etc.). All of them are solved by simply trying the refresh again. This is a simple addition that can go a long way in increasing the stability of the Scheduled Refreshes.

I agree, we cannot expect our users to manually refresh there datasets if they fails.
On top of this idea, it would be great if the gateway-admin could set a limit on the number of retry's within a timeinterval.

This is very much needed. Having to rely on someone to manually refresh the data after a failure is unnecessary and has caused us routine delays in reporting.
