SSRS historically had some data source for ESSBase using XMLA, but was not very good. Would be great if consuming ESSBase from Power BI was a reality. Tableau is already connecting to ESSBase quite well, and would be the only reason we would pick it over Power BI. Not to mention of course OBIEE.

Yes Essbase as data source will be huge advantage. Please update whether is there any progress on this?

There is a large Hyperion Essbase community at quite a few large corporations, I know, this would be a big help. The cubes I have seen in Finance revolve around Cost, Sales, Revenue, Profit that I am aware of also a big presence in Purchasing / Logistics.

We have a need to understand two large Essbase cubes as we intended to migrate the underlying data next year. I am the technical lead on a data mart project at HCA where we would utilize this enhancement early to mid- 2017.
