Imagine a world where report creators can automatically apply slicer and filter selections based on specific logic, revolutionizing data analysis and user experience. This innovative approach eliminates any need for complex workarounds, optimizes slicer functionality, and paves the way for more efficient and effective data reporting.

RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
This should have been out of the box... This feature was amazing in SSRS, why didn't they bring it to PBI is mind boggling...
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
This seems like such a simple ask...

RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
This is a much needed functionality. Our company is relatively new to Power BI with many reports ranging from internal use to client data and this request has come up more than enough to be deemed necessary.
Like many of the comments suggests, the date slicer should default to the latest month (max) with no need for manual selection, but still be able to be configured by the user if needed.
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
Quite frankly - its ludicrous that something this important in BI is not out of the box option from day 1
And this was asked for 2018 - and its still not possible???
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
We need to be able to dynamically set the defaults of ALL slicers (often based on who is logged in)
We need to be able to dynamically set the default of date slicer to a value (not necessarily current date - but some calculated date)
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
I share the need in many of the use-cases in the comments below. One of my recent scenarios involved defaulting a report to "my" rows (based on Power BI logon credentials) while allowing users to look at any other user's data as well. Row-level security allows me to restrict to my rows, but not easily look beyond that. I would like a slicer than has the ability to add a default based on a DAX expression against a user table (which I build, maintain and load) and filter an email column in that table by USERPRINCIPALNAME for the logged on user. Again, this is simply a default. Users should be able to select any row from the user table in the slicer besides the default value referring to themselves.
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
We use the SSAS multidimensional "default member" concept heavily in our legacy enterprise BI system. Not having a dynamic method for setting a default filter/slicer is a major pain point in moving to Power BI as not all of our users have the same level of expertise in navigating BI reports. Would love to see something in a shared dataset that could be consumed by other Power BI users and Excel users.
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
It is a must have feature in my reports user wanted to see data for 6 months default when no date range slicer is selected but when range is selected it should show data that comes under given range Please add this feature.
