CompletedIncrease the data export row limit (30,000 rows max) in Power BI Report Server
Ken Wetherell on 01 Feb 2018 03:41:30
The capability to export raw data from Power BI is an important function for many users.
Presently, the export data limits are as follows and confirmed at the community link below.
- Power BI Service (cloud platform): 150,000 row maximum
- Power BI Report Server (on-premise platform): 30,000 row maximum
Please increase the export limit setting on Report Server to match that of Service. Better yet, increase them both to a much higher limit as requested by others in separate idea posts.

Thanks for your feedback - we are including the ability to Export to Excel from visuals with the Jan 2020 release, and this will up the export limit to the same levels as the PBI Service (150k rows).

The developer should have the option to increase export limit. It's really disappointing to see PowerBi having only 150k export limit.

One of the biggest hurdles I face, in transitioning my organization to PBI, is this 150K row limit. We are trying to move our associates to use PBI for self-service reporting to provide requested data to external clients, but many of them are LARGE. So even when the client is asking for aggregated data, at the customer level, the customer count far exceeds 150K rows. I build reports for users, and they never use them, because they will not spend the time to break up the data to export and then recombine before sending to the client. This results in request having to go to IT, resulting in longer client wait times and cost to IT to pay a developer to pull the data. Most needed feature in my organization (I support approx. 500 associates who support over half a mill clients).

Hi, I am wondering if there are any future plans to increase the export limit to beyond 150k? other BI tools don't seem to have this limitation when exporting data.

'@admin - so do we have to have another item to vote on to address the "better yet, increase them both to a much higher limit..."???
RE: Increase the data export row limit (30,000 rows max) in Power BI Report Server
Have just found out there is a limit of 150,000 rows when exporting to excel? We are trying to switch reports from another reporting tool (not the reporting tool mentioned in a previous comment) which does not have this limit at all and exports to excel without any problems.

We recently upgraded our on Prem server & I can confirm that as promised, they have implemented Export to Excel - and that gives 150k rows.
Not perfect, but not bad either.
RE: Increase the data export row limit (30,000 rows max) in Power BI Report Server
hi - just wondering if the January 2020 Microsoft Powerbi RS release will allow us to export to another Microsoft product called MS Excel that has a standard 1,048,576 rows? instead of just a measly and extremely lousy 30k rows?
RE: Increase the data export row limit (30,000 rows max) in Power BI Report Server
When should we expect the January release?
RE: Increase the data export row limit (30,000 rows max) in Power BI Report Server
Hey there, ETA within this month?
Serious just make it unlimited the extract limit and up until the server breaks down. we can run with the cost and whinging from users haha.
RE: Increase the data export row limit (30,000 rows max) in Power BI Report Server
It would be GREAT if the limit on Service increases from the current 150,000...
But it would be REASONABLE if we could at least get an error message when exceeding this limit like we do on Desktop.
Our users have no idea that they are exceeding the download limits and are creating business reports on incomplete sets of data...
