Imagine a world where report creators can automatically apply slicer and filter selections based on specific logic, revolutionizing data analysis and user experience. This innovative approach eliminates any need for complex workarounds, optimizes slicer functionality, and paves the way for more efficient and effective data reporting.

Please, need this feature.. : )
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
I would like to be able to default my date slicers to something like "last 5 quarters" or "last 13 months" so that anybody opening the report would that data by default. However, the users should be able to change the data range to anything.
Adding a calculated column and then using that calculated column as a filter is okay, except then the user is unable to have the flexibility needed.
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
Missing this basic feature is hampering adoption of the PBI dashboards. If the data in a dashboard is difficult to force to be current by applying a default, and you have to click the dashboard to get to the report to filter for current data, then the dashboard is nearly useless.

Please, please, please
The suggestions around of having a calculated measure for "current month" are "cute" but not like the robust way for example in Reporting Services where each parameter can have a default value.
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
That would be a great help (y)
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
This would be a great help in most of the reports we are using.
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
I am new to Power BI but quickly seeing the need / desirability of setting a default value for a slicer - particularly dates.
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
I keep trying to make PowerBI work like SSRS rdl files.
I used to be able create a parameter with a dynamic value and then set report filters to that dynamic value as a default but still allow my end users to have the ability to explore previous months and years
I see that PowerBI thinks filtering the data by value is a solution...but I don't believe this will work as I'm intending.
Being able to not only set the default value of a slicer but also make that value dynamically, would be essential. Not nice. ESSENTIAL.
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
The slicer should be able to set the default value. For example, I have a list of all companies and a slicer on the active (yes/no) column. It would be nice to default to Yes so that active companies appear and have the option to display all or non active companies
RE: Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically
Slicer should have ability to select Default date and value of the default date can be assigned any custom date or Today, yesterday or tomorrow or any combination, i have been working in Pentaho for 2 years now and they have a solid date range control, which is amazing, Slicer should have straight fwd options like:
1. Today
2. Yesterday
3. Last week
4. Current week
5. Last Month
6. Current Month
7. Last Year
8. Current Year
9.Year to date
10. Specific date
11. Date Between
