When using direct query you should be able to change a date axis to show only the month. This works using excel or when doing a transform but neither of these are possible using DirectQuery. Even workarounds like FORMAT can't be used with direct query. This really needs fixing!

RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
How is it even possible that this isn't automatic?!?!?!?
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Very much needed! - workarounds don't work at all or have not the same functionality, please make this a feature
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
6 years pass by and people are still looking for this feature. Why isn't it implemented.
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Coming from tableau I tried for several hours trying to figure out why date hierarchy wouldn't show up. Disappointing that such a basic reporting need is not built in yet.
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Tableau has natively this option in it "Direct Query"...
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Please fix this!
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
This creates a large amount of extra work for everyone using DirectQuery - which I would assume is the vast majority of users.
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Date hierarchy using direct query should have been available from beginning considering how most database data is reported. You shouldn't have to rely on a voting system, waiting for others to realize that this is a big problem.
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
I can't believe this functionality is not natively available. The work around of creating new columns and using DAX time functions is laborious to say the least! PLEASE MAKE THIS FEATURE!
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Another comment - because this really needs to be done.
