We are using SSAS Tabular as our datasource and we have issues when users try to 'Export underlying data' from the Power BI Service. The query generated to SSAS when doing this seems to include every measure from the table which in some cases is 30+ measures and sometimes from multiple tables. The query never completes and consumes nearly all resources on the SSAS server.
We need to disable this option while still allowing export of summarized data.

RE: Disable export of underlying data
Also, one should have an option of disabling download by user groups and reports. Plus this option should be with person who is sharing those reports.
RE: Disable export of underlying data
The situation is getting desperate due to this issue. We have executives constantly coming across this problem (either due to attempting to export or some other user attempting to export and killing the responsiveness from the server) making the software an embarrassment for us.
RE: Disable export of underlying data
This would make a lot of difference
RE: Disable export of underlying data
This is the single largest issue with using PowerBI in a multi tenant environment. Could we please get an update from the PowerBI team when this will be resolved? Allowing administrators to turn on export summary data whilst turning off export for all underlying data is a setting we have been crying out for. Given the security implications one would hope it is a high priority feature scheduled for an upcoming release soon.
RE: Disable export of underlying data
Another person crying out for this... It seems crazy we can lock-down a report with RLS only to have the security model destroyed by anyone with just a few clicks.
It should be a report-level option to allow export of underlying data, not tenant-wide.
RE: Disable export of underlying data
We have a Simlar Requirement. We would like some daskboards to have this feaure and others not. We have sensible data that is presented to certain organizational Departments and need to share the dashboard to everyone at aggregated level, nevertheless do not want to have everyone downlaod the raw data as that will give detailed underlining data access to everyone!
RE: Disable export of underlying data
You can limit the memory usage in the SSAS settings:
memory\QueryMemoryLimit
RE: Disable export of underlying data
This is a continual headache for us and is causing huge problems, can we get some input from the Power BI team on this one?
RE: Disable export of underlying data
So critical, PLEASE can this get worked on. We cannot offer the end users access to lowest level of detail, not to mention the strain on the servers.
RE: Disable export of underlying data
I agree. It should be a high priority! This also affects our clients and its frustrating.
