I will often use ratios in my tables and I would like to be able to allow a user to point at a value/cell and see the tooltip of the numerator and denominator so they have a frame of reference rather than having to include the numerator and denominator in their own columns. Also, I'd like to be able to add tooltip descriptions to column headers so users are able to get a description of how a column is calculated and what it means.

RE: Add tooltips to table values.

Should be merged with: Tool tip for Specific Column in matrix/Table: https://ideas.fabric.microsoft.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=241fe7d1-ec6a-454a-a93c-03f1080d0f2eWhy can't Ideas handle links from its literal own site? Why would it be identified as malicious? How dumb is this??

RE: Add tooltips to table values.

I would like to add a different tooltip to every column in a single table.

RE: Add tooltips to table values.

I would like to see custom tool tips for column headers. There are many times that an end user calls a table value something different, in addition dimensions can be called something different depending on your department.

RE: Add tooltips to table values.

This issue would also allow us to have a tool tip for the values of the table/matrix and effectively turn off tool tips for the row/column headers. We use images to put up logos in the matrix but the tooltip is a terrible URL string.

RE: Add tooltips to table values.

I would like to see a feature that would enable me as a developer to add a definition to column headers in tables and matrixs so users can get a description of the column and how it is calculated.

This would work best from a users perspective by a pop-up/tooltip appearing when hovering over the column header only.

RE: Add tooltips to table values.

The tooltip functionality on matrix visuals is great, but it only appears on hovering over the values.

It would be amazing to allow hover over the column and row headers as well.

It would be very useful if a tooltip could appear when you hover over a column header, so the user could get more detailed information about what's being shown without having to dig through a visual header tooltip for an entire matrix/table.

RE: Add tooltips to table values.

In a standard matrix visual, I would like the ability to configure a simple text string as a tooltip for the column header of a Value.
It is often useful the have the Value field name as a short-hand version so that it fits on the visual without taking up too much space. For example, I may add a Value from a Measure called "Total Internet Sales Excluding New Customers", but rename this Value to display in the matrix as "Repeat Sales".
In order to give the user a simple way to remind themselves of the full description of the value, I would like the user to hover the mouse over the "Repeat Sales" column header, and have a tooltip display some text that I configure against the Value (for example "This is the Total Internet Sales, excluding customers that have placed their first order within the last 3 months")

RE: Add tooltips to table values.

The Need
• Often there are lots of columns to choose from.
• Sometimes, there is no header row which makes column names indistinguishable
• Even if there are column names, these are often cryptic or abbreviated or ambiguous or similar
• All columns cannot be seen visually in the available screen width
• The Choose Columns dialog is modal making scrolling of the underlying window impossible
• This requires lot of trial and error choose the columns you are sure about, Click Ok, Scroll and check more columns, invoke the dialog again, and so on.

Suggested Solution
The Choose Columns dialog is a check-list.
In order to select / deselect any item you must click on it.
During this mouse hover event, show a small tooltip which displays first few rows of the data from the column.
This will be of immense help in selecting the right columns with minimal effort.
