Often we need to expand on an idea from one report further and copy and paste visuals/pages from one PBIX to another. This would be a huge productivity and quality benefit.

We are excited to announce that this shipped in our November update of PBI Desktop: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-november-2018-feature-summary/#copyPaste For those asking, it will be included in the next version of Power BI Desktop for Report Server as well.

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

please.... make that happen in any way !!! As said before... let the user deal with any issues made by incompatible data models !!!!

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

We dont want all the bells and whistles at this point in time. We can have a limited functionality where the developer knows that the data source in two pbix is identical. Otherwise for large reports with 30-40 sheets it is impossible to distribute the work to different people and get faster results for the end customer.

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

Is a potential compromise to reduce complexity by expressly stating and assuming (to cut / paste visuals etc) that all data tables / relationships / measures between the two pbix files in question are IDENTICAL ?

This would be at the top of my wish list as I am now involved with large reports and the process of moving them through a developement process. Having a simple copy/paste meachanism - and just letting the user deal with any issues because of incompatible data models would be great.

I agree with Scott. Being able to copy and paste tabs between .pbix files with the same data model would be extremely helpful. Having this ability really is critical for change management between different versions of .pbix files as updates are made. I would be able to live with this ability being limited to .pbix files that share a common data model.

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

As others are saying, there's a fundamental problem when the data model and report definition are both required to be maintained in a single PBIX file. There have to be better ways to manage reports and data models that change over time.

I second that it should not be complicated if we are using different reports connected to the same SSAS server. there is no data dependency issues in this case.

This feature is CRITICAL to alleviating the change management burden. Please let us be the ones to break/correct the data model if we’re careless enough to copy PBIX tabs between files with different data models. Just a red X that says "data models don't match, please correct" would be fine.

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

This is an essential feature. Just found myself with a number of developmental files that I now need to merge - but I find that I have to re-create part of this work in the other files! One file has a number of complicated calculated columns that I'd like to re-use without having to start with a copy of the file.
