Often we need to expand on an idea from one report further and copy and paste visuals/pages from one PBIX to another. This would be a huge productivity and quality benefit.

We are excited to announce that this shipped in our November update of PBI Desktop: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-november-2018-feature-summary/#copyPaste For those asking, it will be included in the next version of Power BI Desktop for Report Server as well.

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

Very blocking! since we don't have any aother alternative or workround to copy reports from a PowerBI file using live connection to tabular model into an another PowerBI file using the same tabular model (with data imported)

Why does the tool save template files with Data Model & data connection?
I believe template file should save only controls format, alignment, colors, etc.
then when user connects to the new data Model, controls start to read data.

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

As others have said, Microsoft is making this too complicated. We need the ability to copy the report design, and if the exact same field names exist map those as well. We understand this process can and will force rework on some visualizations. But it's better than manually redoing every visualization.

Consider a scenario where you have multiple pbix files with identical (or very similar) data models. The data model then changes. Power BI provides no mechanism to make updates to the data models across files, or copy the visualizations to a pbix file with an updated data model.

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

I have 2 pbix one for US and one for Other countries. I keep adding reports in US and just need to do some filter changes between both the files. Both files have same data structure. It would be nice if we could do the report and in one and just export it to be able to use in the other file. It takes hours to just re-do the same thing in the other file :(

Is there any update to this?

I would sometimes be just happy for ability to copy formats to start with ... Just a suggestion :)

RE: Allow copy and paste between different PBIX's

How about this: make it somewhat analogous to the Copy/Paste and Copy/PasteFormats function in Excel

For example, allow for a full copy/paste when the data models match.
If the data models don't match, allow a PasteFormats functionality to that we can quickly get all of the formatting and other settings correct...and then we can connect the data accordingly.

Need the ability for more than 1 developer to be able to write reports against the same PBIX or be able to copy reports into one PBIX for publishing

Need this feature too, the data dependencies is the user problem, an error message would be enough !
