The new Dataflows concept looks really interesting and holds massive potential to change the BI landscape.
Currently linking dataflows is only applicable to Premium licences. Based on how Dataflows are pitched as an Excel type approach to ETL I find it unusual that linked entities are only appropriate for Premium licences, especially since the analogy of an entities is a 'cell' in Excel. This is like shipping Excel with only one cell in it as a product for non-premium users. Premium capacities are only appropriate for huge organisations with hundreds of licences to make it financially viable. I would consider either a) making linked entities available to Pro licences by default. or b) separating the licencing for dataflows out of premium into a piece that smaller organisations can utalise in a separate licence type.

We have recently release Premium Per User, which brings Premium features at a lower price point, targeting teams and smaller organizations specifically. Power BI Premium Per User - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
Instead of the huge ask from Power BI Pro users to have linked entities enabled with refresh and manipulation capabilities, it seems MS doesn't respect this idea and so has released a Premium per user solution - which is not a good solution! :(
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
This is a basic requirement. So limiting without this
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
This idea/issue is mentioned multiple times on these forums.
This feature is so fundamental to Power Query functionality that it needs to be enabled for non-Premium customers.
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
It's more than a year ago now... when will this basic feature finally be available for Power BI Pro?
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
This is a very basic function that should be part of PRO. I am currently merging two tables in the desktop version using powerquery, so it doesn't seem like much of a stretch to want that same basic functionality in Dataflow.
Leaving the door open for Alteryx to capitalize.
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
I understand that Microsoft needs to separate the tiers so that the Pro tier is not as capable as the Premium tier. However, I highly doubt that THIS feature is particularily important in that regard. I think Microsoft has more to gain from making it available in Pro tier, and then let that make the popularity of the over all solution greater (= leads to more sales of both Pro and Premium in the long run)
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
This is ridiculous. Without Linked and Computed Entities, even the most basic ETL can't be done. What does the Microsoft team think a Power BI Pro license is capable of doing without the this very simple logic?
No Power BI Pro users will ever, ever use Dataflows.
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
The lack of ability to link or refresh even extremely basic models like a simple merged table makes dataflows useless for any company that can't afford to spend $60,000 a year on Power BI licensing.
I don't understand why this feature was even made available to non-Premium users at all if it's so severely handicapped, and I hope this is addressed when it moves out of preview status. This is such an important piece of building efficient data structures, and in its current state it is completely out of reach for most businesses.
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
There needs to be a way of writing a query once and using it many times. I feel stupid copying and pasting the same queries into multiple workspaces.
RE: Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence
Yes, it seems like it should be closed to premium only subscribers if this feature is not in cluded...I played around with it today, but it appears to not add any value with pro only license. And that's not likely to change for us with the current model
