Released in PowerBI Desktop last November 2018, please make the "composite model" functionality available in Power BI Report Server. Key functionality requried is being able to use Direct Query against more than 1 data source, or mix Direct Query and Import in the 1 PowerBI report.

Currently Power BI Desktop (optimized for Power BI Server) will force you into Import mode once you start to mix data sources, which can see you importing a lot of data.

Thank you,

AngusF

This is needed, Can't see why you havn't implemented it already. Considering when it came in the cloud version.

RE: Allow composite model in Power BI Report Server

Hello PBI Team,We are a Finance firm, for compliance we have all our data within our On-Premise Servers. No support for Composite Model & Many to Many relationship in PBI Report Server is soo frustrating and limiting, because we are heave PowerPivot Data Modeling customer and as an architect i am trying to implement SSAS & PBIRS end to end solution and we are stuck now with some of the complex report which has more than 1 kind of data source connection and the join support limitation.Any update on future plans to support this functionality will shed some light for us to move forward with PBIRS.ThanksArun

RE: Allow composite model in Power BI Report Server

I can not use PowerBI Report Server for PowerBI reports at all without this feature. We have spent years and thousands of pounds trying to implement PowerBI Report Server onto our portal and have finally hit this dead end.Microsoft, you should make the On-Prem version of PowerBI identical to the Cloud version - why you have decided to develop two different versions of the same product shows poor quality of design from the outset.Bear in mind, that in Tableau, which is a far superior product, the features are identical, whether you are on cloud or on-prem, and also, the Direct Query and Import modes have identical functionality, and even, you can switch back from Import mode to direct query.

This would be such an amazing feature, especially after hearing about composite model support with analysis services tabular models coming in the future SQL server 2022 release.

We need this to make the product viable to use. For fast development this is a must.

Not having this on PBI Report Server is a massive negative.

RE: Allow composite model in Power BI Report Server

Not having this on PBI Report Server is a massive negative. It forces you to store everything in a db of some kind. The overheads of permission and data management for sometimes trivial bits of data.
