Whenever I see an aggregated metric (e.g., $483,572 in sales) - in, say, a column in a chart or a cell in a matrix - I should be able not only to drill down to a next level of detail, but to "drill to details" - all the way down to the individual rows of data (e.g., the individual sales orders) that make up that value.

Thanks for all the feedback. We just released the April version of Power BI desktop, including new drill functionality. You can drill into a particular column in a chart and see the records behind that part of the visual. For more info on this feature and other features in our latest release, check out this blog post: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-april-update-feature-summary/

RE: Drill to details (view row-level data)

Wanted to move from Tableau to Power BI but no drill down at matrix or table level is no go for my organization. For our complex reports it's quite important to be able to drill through to avoid dashboard clutter.

And if the detail has commnents or long text we need to be able to see them in multiple lines and paragraphs.

Would not the ability to link directly to a report in SSRS do the same? I kind of feel that by adding the row level data you could be using a shovel to dig foundations instead of a bulldozer

3 votes. This does not have to be a flashy new interface that would take up much of the development resources. Even an 'export rows to excel'-functionality would suffice for most use cases (or rows shown in a pop-up, with an export to excel option). Utilizing the right click event to show the export rows option, would be simple and effective.

Unfortunately this feature is an absolute necessity for my organization to consider using Power BI. Please enable this soon.

I agree this is a critical feature for most of my larger customers and means we often need to use another other tool or a combination, which isn't great for user adoption. Unfortunate because I love the new experience so much!

While it's being reviewed, perhaps worth clarifying that getting the underlying data out of pbi would also be very beneficial. It seems as though almost every application out there has an "Export to Excel" apart from Power BI ;)

Also, It would be really nice if we could display the business field (e.g. Client Name, Location Name, etc) instead of Key field values while connection to SSAS Tabular model.

Power BI is world class when it comes to drill down on bar charts...i don't think this capability is even possible in Tableau. Drill down on a chart is a great advantage Power BI has over Tableau. An area for Power BI to improve is a feature to drill down in tables too....that is, drill down on a table by clicking the data in the table. Currently, I can drill down on a table indirectly, by clicking a related bar chart.

You could simply put a table below your visual. Then you kind of have all the information. ;) Since you can adjust the page size, this is a viable option.
