CompletedAnalysis by date/time: View data by year, month, day, day of week, time of day, etc.

If I have a date/time field in my data, I should be able to view metrics by year, by month, by day, by day of week, by time of day, and so on. I should be able to drill from month down to day, back up to month, and so on.
I should also be able to ask for 'last 7 days' or '12 months ago' in my formulas, filters etc.
I shouldn't need to create a "Date" table and all of these fields in my data. As long as I have a date/time field in my data, I should be able to do this analysis easily in the Power BI report (or Q&A).

In the May release of Power BI Desktop we shipped a preview of the relative date slicer. To learn more check out this blog post: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/ In addition, the new Quick Measures feature has a bunch of time intelligence calculations that you can add to your model. Learn more about that feature here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/quick-measures-preview/

I would love to see this as its a priority for the type of analysis I need to do.

A missing date / time slicer, e.g. a calendar to mark date ranges, is an absolute show stopper.

I'm out of votes but, hopefully this is being built.

Support for years other than calendar is a must. millions of companies have a July 1 - June 30 fiscal year, and currently I can't use any of the Year to date calculations, and so cannot take this product into production.

Definitely need this - we're working around it right now by using Q&A to construct a pinned dashboard tile with "last 15 minutes" on the query, but that doesn't allow as much flexibility in setting graph colours etc.

I'm very surprised the Date filter dropdown in Power BI preview doesn't contain an option 'is Current Date'. Our customers would like to see daily reports where date search is automatically set for previous day i.e. 'is Current Date - 1'. Hope this change gets implemented soon.

Please keep in mind the world of "fiscal years". It would be great if there would be version of this feature that allowed the user to choose the first month of the fiscal year, and offset from that (i.e. May is month one, so quarter one would be May/June/July, etc.)

I think this is virtually identical to this other idea: https://support.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi/suggestions/7865136-timeline-slicer-for-date-month-quarter-year

I am just amazed at how poor and complex date handling is right now in PBI. Any date field should automatically provide Year, Month, Day, Quarter, FY, This Month, Last Month, Last Month,...etc. without a complex series of calendar/date tables.

Hi Will, do you have an update here? Alternatively, can you point to any documentation detailing Microsoft 's recommended approach to handle this requirement?
